The klezmer-circus ensemble Tsirk Dobranotch dazzles audiences with their signature melange of contemporary circus, evocative storytelling, and the live music of the legendary klezmer band Dobranotch. In their newest production “Tshemodan” (“suitcase” in Yiddish), a suitcase is opened to reveal a hidden world of traditional music, memories of wandering and exile, and long lost stories of European Jewish circus. The performers themselves all stem from migratory backgrounds. They bring the audience along their journeys through aerial acrobatics, clown and mime based in Yiddish humour tradition, Yiddish dance, spoken personal testimony, and – of course – Dobranotch’s signature sound that will have you out of your seat and dancing. In response to today’s political and social turmoil, “Tshemodan” is a lively celebration of unity, diversity and resilience through universal stories of movement, music, culture and connection.
